John Lewis unveils £2m pop-up apartment available for free overnight stays
Fans of all-things-John Lewis now have the chance to enjoy the “ultimate try-before-you-buy experience” in a one-bedroom flat available for complimentary one-night stays or private brunches and dinner parties.
The Residence, kitted out in furnishings and products from the retailer’s latest home, fashion and technology collections, will be available for a limited time in three of the retailer’s shops in London (on Oxford Street), Liverpool and Cambridge. All furnishings and products at the Residence are also available for sale.
Each flat offers a living room and dining area, a bedroom and a wardrobe stocked with clothes in the overnight guest’s size. Guests can also choose from a selection of pillows, beauty products and scents according to their preferences. A private concierge will also be on site for the duration of the stay from 6.30pm to 9am the following morning, which includes a breakfast basket from Waitrose.
The London apartment – said to be valued at £2million by Savills – is also equipped with a kitchen, a study and a terrace overlooking Cavendish Square decorated with fresh “clean-air plants” and orange trees.
Overnight guests at the Oxford Street branch can also enjoy either a 60-minute after-hours private shopping experience with a personal shopper across the entire department store or a “behind-the-scenes” tour of the store, including access to the underground stock room.
Customers could also request a dinner party booking for up to 10 people at the Oxford Street apartment, catered by a private chef offering an exclusive menu and a “mixologist” serving tailor-made cocktails according to visitors’ tastes. Each guest can also request their preferred table setting furnished with products from the John Lewis collections.
The Residence apartments in Liverpool and Cambridge can host private two-hour long brunches for up to six guests, catered with freshly prepared brunch dishes and Mimosa drinks.
Those interested in bagging an overnight stay or a dining experience can apply for a booking at one of the three stores this weekend and next (September 16, 17, 23, and 24) for stays through October 18. Guests will be selected at random at the end of each weekend.
From September 16 to October 18, the Residence will also host a series of free workshops for visitors during each shop’s respective opening hours, with tips from in-house experts on how to choose the best duvet and pillow for the ideal sleep setting, ways to create mood lighting in a room, and how to make the perfect table setting to host a “showstopper” dinner party.
