Idris Elba vows he’ll never get married again
The third time is certainly not the charm for Idris Elba.
The British actor, 44, revealed that, after two failed marriages, he doesn’t plan on giving holy matrimony another shot.
“Am I ever gonna get remarried? I don’t think so,” he told Essence. “Yeah, I don’t think so. Marriage is an institution of sorts. And I’ve done it. It’s not for everybody. It’s not my life’s calling.”
Elba, who’s set to star this summer in the big-screen adaptation of Stephen King’s “The Dark Tower,” was married to Hanne Norgaard from 1999 to 2003, and Sonya Nicole Hamlin for six weeks in 2006.
He and Norgaard share a teenage daughter, Isan, in addition to his toddler son Winston, whom he welcomed with girlfriend Naiyana Garth in 2014.
And while the “Luther” star may not consider marriage his calling, he’s certainly embracing the role of father.
“I’m 44 years old with a two-and-a-half-year-old boy,” he said. “I’m rolling around playing. And then I’m at a Drake concert with my teenage daughter. Having a young child now keeps me young, without a doubt.”
Staying young should prove helpful in Elba’s latest venture, which happens to be Muay Thai training.
“I’m in Thailand taking part in a documentary about Muay Thai fighting,” the actor revealed.
Elba currently stars in the docuseries “Idris Elba: Fighter,” which tracks his journey as he attempts to become a professional kickboxer in just one year.
